The Pueblo of Laguna and Laguna Development Corporation was honored to host this year’s Sixth Annual New Mexico State and Tribal Leaders Summit at Route 66 Casino Hotel on July 17 and 18, 2014. Governor Susana Martinez and members from her cabinet joined tribal leaders from the 22 New Mexico tribes, nations, and pueblos to discuss issues of mutual concern. The summit was held in Legends Theater for approximately 350 state and tribal leaders. Pre-summit activities were hosted in the grand ballroom and Envy Nightlife. These activities included networking events, orientation, and tribal leader meetings. A special dinner reception with entertainment by Laguna Dancers and the Native American Comedy Duo James and Ernie kicked off the summit.

Topics discussed covered a multitude of concerns from the tribes including Indian education, health, water rights and natural resources, infrastructure, and economic development. This year marked Governor Martinez’s fourth tribal summit while in office. “Today was a truly beneficial and cooperative opportunity to engage in our common challenges and strengthen the relationships between state and tribal leaders,” said Governor Susana Martinez. “We will continue our work together to provide the best possible education for our children, promote a positive business environment that allows our communities to thrive, and ensure that New Mexicans of all backgrounds have the opportunity to succeed.”

LDC would like to thank everyone who helped to make this event a tremendous success!
