As the exclusive casino sponsor of Lobo Athletics, Route 66 Casino Hotel put the “it” in “Spirit” during the Lobo Men’s Basketball conference game on January 9, 2013. The Lobo’s defeated UNLV (65-60) and established the Lobos as the team to beat in the Mountain West Conference. Before the game, Route 66 volunteers handed out LED foam spirit sticks to the first 5,000 Lobo fans. The spirit sticks were well received by guests; all 5,000 were dis¬persed in less than 45 minutes. The Pit literally glowed as the lights dimmed and the players were introduced. During the game pictures and com¬ments from excited fans exploded on social me¬dia. But fans were not the only ones excited about the glow sticks. Steve Alford, Lobos’ Head Coach, stated, “Jerry, the red glow sticks were awesome. The Pit looked great – wish we could do it for every game.” Jerry Smith, President/CEO of LDC, also received a personal thank you from Craig Neal, Lobos’ Associate Head Coach. “Thanks so much for the glow sticks that was awesome and everyone around the country is talking about it!”

In addition to the spirit sticks Route 66 Casino Hotel took center stage at halftime with the first ever digital takeover of all multi-media sig¬nage in the Pit. The halftime promotion fea¬tured the winter and spring entertainment lineup in Legends Theater. The voice of the pit, Stu Walker, led the promotion announcing each show in front of over 18,000 fans.

As part of the promotion, unsuspecting lobo fans attending the game were selected a row at a time to win show tickets to one of the up¬coming shows in Legends Theater. “With a captive audience at the sell-out game, it was a spectacular showcase of our 2013 headliner schedule,” explains Skip Sayre, Chief of Sales & Marketing.

This will be the 5th year of the exclusive casino sponsorship with Lobo Athletics. The Lobo Men’s Basketball team is having a great season so far and there are many action packed games still on the schedule. The Women’s Sponsorship game was held on Saturday, January 26th and in support of Women’s sports an additional 2,500 spirit sticks were handed out to Lobo fans.
